Tips for the office (back)
Everyday office practices
Practical advice, inspired by Greenpeace
- Designate a drawer, a bookshelf, or a container to collect supplies that your team can reuse—envelopes, paper, and cardboard can have a second life!
- Buy only one copy of the newspaper and place it in a common area so that it can be shared during breaks and meals.
- Use staples or non-toxic glue instead of tape.
- Use glue sticks or multipurpose white glue. Avoid glue or adhesive cement that has a solvent odor (e.g., rubber cement or assembly glue).
- Use chalk, china markers (grease pencils), or wax crayons rather than solvent-based markers.
- Avoid solvents by using correction tape. If correction fluid is required, choose a water-based product designed for use with photocopiers.
- Whenever possible, choose a mechanical pencil or a refillable fountain pen.
- Call a bicycle courier service for local deliveries.
- Encourage employees to bring their meals in reusable containers.
- Winterize the office to save energy.
- Set up a bulletin board for environmental announcements and post information on meetings, news, and environmentally friendly cleaning tips.
- Post a sign at the entrance indicating that the last person to leave must turn off the lights.
